Seven deadly saturdays

Dog park

Canines roaming free amongst the trees
Cavorting
Rolling in sand and sawdust
Lopping in bounds
Are these really the hounds from hell?

Owners talking drinking iced tea
Watchful and peaceful
Lingering at dusk
All hatful and bright
Are these really the ones to tell?

Children roaming free amongst the swings
Clambering
Rolling in sawdust and sand
Laughing out load
Are they really afeared?

Parents watchful
Protective and scared
Hoping beyond hope
All will be right
When child and canines collide

Life’s little mystery
Why are we different
In wants and desires
Hopes and ambition
Not to step in the dog poo

Ode to a drunken board

Starkly settled, legs crossed
Slumbering or simmering
Waiting for weight
To test mettle form
Forlornly cast

Drenched in oil, water
By sun and wind
Ageing gracefully
Steadily rocking
To and fro

Listening avidly
For falling leaves
That settle silently
On slats laid bare
Lingering

Talking silently
To those that care
Lifeless, yet alive
With intent and fear

Of fire consumed ???

JOKER’S HAND

Sense and sensibility
Slides slowly, surreptitiously
Out the door
When matters pertain
To prejudice

Let it not be said
For one and all
To hear
Favour in all things
But not for all

Depending on the topic
Onboard belief
Life’s travesties
Lingering aloud
When the final vote is called

Divide and conquer
Will as tail become a head
Not likely anytime soon
Just wait and see
Prejudice reigns supreme

Lonely saturdays

Saturday evening, eight times a year
Plus one, If you count the other
That’s nine

Alone on the deck
With a bundle of joy
Filling the void
Left by a lover

Angry and depressed
Cranky and jealous
That another lives
A life of fulfilment
When all alone
With thoughts severe
Makers of sadness

The sun slips slowly
Dragging the spirit
Down the spiral
Darkened of enlightenment
The wind whispers
Grabbing the senses
Sensing the sorrow
Wandering
moons

Moons wander all over the place
Landing unobtrusively
In dens of darkness
Devoid of sound
Broken by the piercing call
To night

Settling succinctly
Recalling the past
Bone by bone
Sinew by sinew
Reflecting agony
Mistrust and jealously

No matter the time
Moons wander
Landing solidly
On the quicksilver of life
Running headlong
To false contusions

When will they stop
The3se cavorting moons
When will they ease
What makes it fun
To want for the night
When darkness descends

Why?

Why does a spear
Suddenly unfurl
To reveal
A plethora of fronds

Why do birds chatter
At sunrise and dusk

Why do dogs bark
At shadows and sounds
That interrupt
Their day

Why do leaves fall
Slowly to ground
When in truth
The could go the other way

Answer these questions
Tell no lies
Answer these questions
Almost time to die

Journeying backwards

A pen betwicks
A glass in hand
Breeze on the back
Slowing the mind

Peaceful and calm
Dusk descends
Casting darkness
Back to day

Lonely no more
Your best friend is here
Talking together
Quelling the fear

Life resumes
Its plated journey
Along the path
To fulfilment
