Shards of light creep noisily over the sand Crashing their way through the spinifex Bringing life and pumping moisture
Dawn heaves itself above the plains Watching the evil of night dissipate
Lenses of light awaken the land Parting feathers with puffs of warmth Sleepily she stretches and blinks Behind a floating wisp
In the diminishing shadows, he lays Slumbering dreaming of the great serpent As light cascades across, he slithers Moving to warming beams
She hunches, then springs at the turpid air Stretching, her span seeking lift Slowly she curves her struts Soaring high, above the land The she dives, fast, accurately After espying for breakfast
His membranes stretch, eyes open now Listening, a rustle in the grasses Twitching grey, darting, evasive Nose itching, for plump melons
She slams headfirst into dead bush Caught, twisting she screams The serpent slithers towards her Just as the bilby peeks up from it burrow He strikes, slowly gorging on felt
Flappily, she steals for the clouds Praying for another day
CAVING WITH WILLIES
Everything creaks when you go caving Or does it creek
Seeking light Lamps lit like battered hens
Packs packed Ropes roped Together, just in case
Cases of champagne For the after snake
One-eye, out For the weather or whether
Stubbies creak when parked near creeks Toes stub when you go creeking About after dark with mates Of limited persuasion
After dark, it’s easy to noddy off Harder to off Noddy
Hilights lux Dazzle the dawn Down the abyss Iguana, Dark as bat’s piss
Night merges into darkness Sheer, complete Awed, in awe Waiting in the pitch
Stumble and crawl End on end Gases seep Corkscrewing?
The pipe bends S’s Stuck like a pig (On a spit)
Keep the big one behind The little one ahead Piggy in the middle Tug and pull Wait for the cool bod To set a spirit free
Creeks creak Or so it seems When sandstone is as heavy as mist Floating between the abyss
Sandstone creaks When waited for Crawls, belly down Wet and welcome Stoned no more
Dawn breaks without light!
Everything creaks when you go caving Or does it creep?

COOPER CKREEK
At dusk Squarking orbs of white rage Harangue the river Wheeling endlessly Before plundering naked branches
At daybreak The mists warm strands of molten cold Radiating peacefully Seeking crevices to fill
Black swans flyby in veed formation Scooting placidly Reflecting shadows in the shoals
With nightcome, all is quiet As gums shift silently Positioning for the coming dawn
COOPER CREEK – AU CO
Finches furtively twitter, fluttering Tweeting twill Chorusing a crisp caphocony, calling Darting, dipping down delightfully Oblivious to the coming
Black clay lays, tessellated in the sun Crispy, and curling like bark A breeze, hot with a promise of the north Instead foretells death and decay
Rocks, too hot to touch, gleam Grimacing with the onslaught
Earth turns back toward Scorching discs Sucking the hot stench Into its bowels
High above Black shapes soar, along Slithering channels Soon, wave after wave, of Formations First a few, then many Volitant toward the approaching face of a darkened sky
DALGETY STAMPEDE
Striding the ridge (seeking puffs) Like saus stampeding Three eared Herculeans spin Cooling the land
Semi-silent sentinels To man’s greed for power Latent energies stolen From future generations?
Loved, and hated Turning in the sun Looking for draughts In a glass without froth
Nearby, supine in the sun Panels, lying in wait For trickles of light Burn the air
Granite roasts Heats, then shrinks Providing the opportunity For energy to abound
Slowly basking in the sun Ornithorhynchus anatinus ponders Intrusions, blocking the light Whoomping the solitude
AT THE MUSEUM
Verdant Like a double-decker bus Poised
Rusted panels Holed Woven with thread
Waiting For ignition Fire
Slowly turning New coats Yellow and red
Mimicking the grail Now frail Failed at war
Brothers for a buck Mucking with …..
Blue on blue Brown on brown Clowns pant
Buy more blue Buy more brown Clowns chant
Why buy blue Why buy brown Clowns rant
Big ones Small ones In between ones
Pretty one All Buy more
Slouching in the waves Thinking, about When men were small
Slowly fading, etched in sand Memories, of When animals loomed tall
Terror reigned Both for tall and all Till death departed
Stolen bones Taken afar for science To paw
Bones left To age In the night
Sunshine returns For some
Green hills Shamed with blood Ramshackle crofts Burnt at night Wretched waves On coats of giants Rekindling memories Of lands afar
Tales abound wherein Ochre lays in lie For coming racks To gel it We love this land of plenty This land of sunny lakes We love its peace and ??????? ?????????????????????????????
Black hulks rear skyward Stretching from the flames Mountains blessed by rain Keep life alive for years ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ????????????????????????
Under blackened skies With dormant shade Lies blistered skin Parched and tanned Minds ruffled By fumes of death Lives wasted In drums of brine
Our country, a cored heart Golden land of night Sprinkled with snow Under scary skies Land locked in dust Till released by rain Our country, our heart Mocked by pain
Gold flecks of sand Wasted by the sun Sparkling in a lovely land Waiting to be found Our country swamped by flood Laying silently in fields of sand Drying finally, to reveal the truth Our country

Towering, she stands Within a form gnarled by the sun Looking all coy, curled at the edges Layering a smile upon a burnt land
Quickly she quips and ponders Seemingly intent on harassing As she slowly pushes the buttons Of travellers, weary from the dust
Fridges burp, belching gases As frozens silently melt Puddling In the midday glitz
Intrepids quickly consume Milky richness ????? Layered around sticks
