Goodbye RE-UNITED In 1973 the houseboat ‘Me and er’ whilst plying the Darling River was flipped by strong winds and floundered. Her captain, young Irishman Caede Faltre and fifteen passengers were able to scramble from the sinking boat and reached the shore. Twenty years later, whilst Faltre was participating in a marathon kayak race on the Murray River he was re-united with the behemoth. Straining at her moorings In the dark of night She bested the breeze Awaiting dawn and abatement When freedom knocks
Plying the smooth water Glistening in short ripples She strains at her throttle To maintain head speed Ever faster
Toward dusk, the demon returned Buffeting the proud hull Swinging precariously on the helm This side, that side She lost her way
Suddenly, an almighty gust Shook all to their foundations Sitting on her hull She felt secure Until she flipped
Scampering passengers cried in despair As the young captain Tossed jackets overboard Saving the passengers She sank
Bright smooth water Welcomed the contestants ‘Paddles o’board’ the race began Carried on the flood Towards the Murray near
Forward way ceased Trailing ropes snapped taut Grubbed by the snag Slowly, headway returned Besting the snag
Majestically the behemoth Rose from the murky depths
