CAT 7 & MONA 2012 (Hobart)

Category 7

Floating parched over hot lands

Wind, dust-laden reaches the sea

Spreading across the limitless sky

Air, impregnated with salt

Heavy with water vapour

Drifting destinationless over waves

Spiraling lazily, rising and falling

On tropical eddies, cooling

Currents aloft, cushioning the heavens

Sunlight warmth on water

Keeps it buoyant

Flowing unhurried to the West

Category 7a

Heat shimmered

Over still, parched

Endlessly shifting stands?

Sending eddies of

Fine dust

Into a sky, brilliant

With unrelenting light

Evans & Jameson

Life ebbed within the vortex

Cascading blindly toward the sun

Dimmed by the clouds

Of losinglustreand tranquility

MAY ONE NEVER AGE

Squirted subtly onto stone

Heavy with ne’er a trace of zest

She looms silently upom sparkling waves

Beauty beyond compare lurks

Hiding beneath skirts of satin

Mostly sensed, never seen

Exposed, lined for all to see

Recall, if you can, the rose

Petalled, heavy with desire

Pervisions abound, seeking clarification

Meaning through mastery, of sinew

Leaving sensibilities, lost in time

Our desire for expression

Is loaded locked fast

Moulded into the stones

Category 9

Tall channels of wet, salty air

Rose steadily the night-dark sky

Spinning helixes of water, heat and wind

Form a single vast vortex

Sound, speed and fury

Fed by the ocean’s trapped heat

Its engine spins tirelessly

Convection towers contracting

Passing over cool water

Expanding, coaxed from the depths

Thin outer walls of white

Distant edges of the storm

Gives way to denser walls of grey

Spinning fast and tight around

Nature’s most spectacular creation

An eye of a hurricane

Arguably, the eye of the gods
