On the foreshore

BLACKNESS

This series of poems was penned at the Foreshore Caravan Park, Nambucca Heads NSW during Christmas/New Year 2013/14

(i)

Darkness descends

Flipping her skirts

Spiritly

Exposing stumps

Creosoted by fire

Supine

(i)

Darkness descends

Flipping her skirts

Spiritly

Exposing stumps

Creosoted by fire

Supine

She is >>>>>

She stretches

Languidly outreaching

Embracing the dying day

Calming the ether

Moonshine tiptoes

Across the expanse

Silently

Leaving telltales

On the dust

Immobile

She awakens

Distilling to dawn

(ii)

Light spirited on wing

Soaring darkly, on

Wisps of sheen

Flocking, flocculating

Round in squares

Making for havens

Nightly parades

Roosting, noisily

Above the stars

Come morning

They are gone

Returning to type

(iii)

Dark eyes moulded

By time

Furtively scan

Sunken depths

Snakes slither, on

Trails of gossamer

Looking for prey

To end their rest

Suddenly, engorged

Struck by fire

They dance, a

Duel with death

Serpents emerge, taking

Life beyond death

Screaming restitution

Scorching the earth

Lonely ducks on wing

Scrutinise the turmoil

Landing speedily

To gain the prize

(iv)

Dark depths swallow

Cavorting pisces

Engulfing

Then releasing

Streams of murk

Shadowy currents

Toss and turn

Startling

Leaving naught

But memory trails

Sudden flashes

From above

Warn of impending

Disaster

Too late

Grabbed and crunched

Taken aloft

To die

(v)

As darkness descends

Cicaderns awake

Spreading fronds

Against a dour backing

Sudden lights

Captivate the silent night

Reflecting

Lonely frights

Foxes swarm

Circling slowly

Looking for nectar

On the barren flats

Illusion persists

Slow movement

Oscillating

In sultry realms

By dawn

Reality returns, for

Another day

(vi)

Darkness, darkest

As dark

Swallows the earth

Within, movement

Is concealed

By blackness

Without light

All is lost

To perpetual night

Darkness, darkest

As dark
